Food fact - Salmon


Unlike wild salmon, which acquire their distinctive pink color naturally from a shrimp-rich diet, farm-raised salmon are inherently white. To replicate the appealing pink hue found in wild salmon, aquaculture practices involve adding carotenoids, which are plant-derived pigments, to the diet of farm-raised salmon. This process ensures the farmed salmon's color closely resembles that of their wild counterparts
